VBS - Night 3

Bee Intentional
May 25, 2012

I am working diligently to get ready for VBS.  I am preparing crafts for 125 students this year.  I can't wait!  I am so excited!
Night three of VBS is when we present the ABC of salvation.  We will be making airplane bobbleheads/ bracelets.  The students will decorate them with ABC.

I made the base of the bobble head using red, yellow, white, black, and green beads.  This is a fun way to presnt the plan of salvation to children.  Each student will receive a card explaining what the colors of the beads mean.  This Craft is an adaptation of one  in the lifweay aviation VBS.

Lifeway VBS - Day 2/ craft ideas

Bee Intentional
May 24, 2012

I just started the first job(away from the home) I have had in over ten years.  I am not sure I am going to make it.  I am exhausted, flustered, and really concerned that my brain has no capacity to do anything outside of the home.  If only I could just stay home and cook and craft.

Today I want to show you what I have planned for day two of VBS.  The theme is God's power over circumstance.  The story is Daniel in the Lions Den.  We will be making pilots prayer log and lion magnets.  Enjoy the pictures I have posted below.

The magnet was made using a four inch fun foam circle and a smaller fun foam circle.  Glue rotini pasta on large circle to create the mane.  Put a face on small circle (I used foam pieces). Put magnet on back and attach verse of VBS theme on front.

The prayer log is super easy and inexpensive.  Cut a manila folder in half horizontally (this will make two logs).  Cut copy paper in half to fit inside.  Use a hole punch and punch two holes at the top of book.  Attach with twine or ribbon.  Allow children to decorate covers.

Graduation Cards

May 24, 2012

We are knee deep in graduation season. We have been bombarded with graduation party invites this year.  I think our family has received twenty-seven announcements .  This does not include the ones just my teens have been invited to.  When I went to the store to purchase cards, I only liked the really expensive ones.  Knowing our budget could not afford over twenty $5 cards, I decided to make cards.

I purchased a pack of ten square blank cards with envelopes for $1 and a pack of graduation stickers for $1, and so far have made five cards that I am very pleased with.  I still have enough supplies to make five more!  Ten cards for TWO dollars!!! Yippee!  Take a look at my finished project below!

I do not have a bunch a fancy scrapbooking or card making tools and was still able to make some decent looking cards.  I placed scripture verses and graduation sentiments inside.

Lifeway VBS craft ideas - Day 1

Bee Intentional
May 23, 2012
We have an aviation theme for VBS this year.  The Bible Story for the first night is from Joshua 3-4.  The children will learn about Joshua crossing the Jordan.  We will be discusiing God's Power over nature!
The  children will make aviation scarves with bible verses written on them.  They will also make aviation glasses from kits we purchased at Hobby Lobby (my favorite store ever)!
The younger classes will make wall hangings from paper plates.
To Make the aviation scarf:
1. Cut fleece in 6 in strips at least 40in long
2. Use muslin and create patches by ironing on wonder   under.
3. Cut muslin in 4ins squares  using pinking sheers
4.  Iron on one end of the fleece scarf.
5. Ready for children to decorate using fabric pens or permant markers, and rubber stamps
To make wall hanging:
1. Give each child a blue paper plate.
2. Have each child gather 12 stones
3. Place white school glue on bottom of plate
have the students place their stones in the
glue.
4. Add fish stickers.
5. Punch a hole at top.
6. Add a ribbon hang, and attach bible verse

VBS Ideas on the way!

I have been doing quite a poor job at keeping up with the blog.  I totally missed crafting with my children on mothers day.  I had gotten quite the bug and was intentionally trying to get well.  Fortunately for me they continued crafting without me, I will post some of the gifts they made me soon.

I am now in full Vacation Bible School mode.  Our church is using VBS materials from Lifeway this year, so we will be seeing lots of aviation crafts.  I only end up with ten minutes for each group in crafts so I have to keep it simple. Here are a few of the things I have been working on.

I will be posting individual pictures and where the ideas came from in another post!  If they are individual ideas I will include instructions and how they apply to the Bible story or theme.

A few of our favorite books

In honor of National Library week I wanted to share with you some of our favorite books.  My oldest daughter, who is now eighteen, loved Shel Silverstein poetry books when she was young.  She still occasionally checks them out from the library.  My Seventeen year-old's favorite childhood book was Goodnight Moon.  He wore out several copies, because we had to read them so much. My Nine year-old loved the book The First of Octember, by Dr. Suess.  We had to hide it for awhile because he had huge dreams of building a play set in our backyard that was modeled after the book.  My five year-old's favorite book is The Story about Ping, by Marjorie Flack.

Happy National Library Week!

National Library Week

Bee Intentional
April 8, 2012

Did you know that April 8th - 15th is National Library week?  The library is one of my favorite places.  It is a fun and inexpensive place to go, that is provided you get your books and movies back before they are over due.

We have learned so many neat things at the library, not only from the books, but also from the activities they offer.  My children have taken classes on balloon animals, origami, insects, and much more all at our local library.  This week I will be featuring books and some activities that we have experienced at our local library.
